Case Study – FAKRO Roof Windows at Colchester Hospital

Working closely with KLH Architects, the Green Unit provided an environmentally friendly and highly energy-efficient home for patients requiring palliative care. The striking ARC™ building is certainly an abstract work of art and not one that can be ignored. Natural light has a proven positive effect on both mental and physical well-being, and installing FAKRO roof windows within the unit helps patients and carers stay naturally comfortable and bathed in daylight.

Making the difference to the patients and staff of Colchester Hospital

To complement the eco-friendly connection with the natural environment, the unit features two FTP-V P5 roof windows which have been used within a combination structure. This allows the patients to sit in the windows while enjoying the beautiful ‘Time Garden’ courtyard just a few feet away.

A key NHS message is their pledge to become more environmentally friendly and this ARC™ unit is a low carbon build and therefore a perfect choice for Colchester Hospital. Both FAKRO and the Green Unit utilise sheep’s wool within their products to offer a greater level of insulation. Using energy-efficient components like these can help create a positive atmosphere for both patients and their loved ones.

Reducing stress from those either receiving palliative care or providing treatment was the main objective of Colchester Hospital with the introduction of the Green Unit, the delivery of which FAKRO is proud to have been a partner.

FAKRO continue to provide great products and support.
