The FAKRO awning blind provides optimum protection from overheating while at the same time providing an external view. It will reflect the sun’s rays before they can reach the glass helping to minimise temperatures, reflective glare and the harmful effects of sunlight.
The awning blind is made of durable, weather- resistant fibre glass fabric. The fabric is roller mounted, spring loaded and fitted inside an aluminium casing which is installed at the top of the window. This enables easy control of the blind and makes it possible to use a wider fabric, thus providing additional protection against ingress of light.
Rooms can be protected from overheating with the use of external accessories such as awning blinds or electric external roller shutter which give better protection than internal accessories.
External blinds and manual external roller shutter stop the sun’s rays from reaching the glass reducing the heat flow and help prevent the room from overheating. Internal accessories also offer protection from the heat but to a lesser degree. Their main function is to provide privacy, decorate the space and regulate the amount of light entering the room.
Condensation forms wherever warm moist air comes into contact with cold surfaces. Due to their nature and location, roof windows can be more susceptible to condensation, which, if it occurs, is a sign of excess moisture within the room.
The best way to reduce condensation is to have a fully functional ventilation system. In order for the ventilation system to work properly, a constant access for fresh air through windows and air inlets must be ensured. Condensation can also be limited by careful use of heaters (directly beneath the window), and by installing linings beneath vertical combination windows. When a window cill is in place beneath a window, a gap should be kept between the cill and the wall, in order to provide proper air circulation.

FAKRO roof window blinds are designed and manufactured to fit FAKRO windows. The information on your ID plate (shown below) contains all the information you need to order the correct blind size for your window. In the example below the size of 77/118 means this window requires a 78cm x 118cm blind from the roof window blind range here.
It is not necessary to measure any part of the window before ordering a blind, this measurement is all that’s required.
If your window is a custom size (meaning a custom size blind is required) the measurement will also be on the ID plate. You can discuss this measurement with the RW4Y Digital Team who will be able to provide you with a cost and place the item online for ordering.
Unfortunately we cannot produce blinds for non FAKRO windows. We cannot guarantee they will fit because our blinds made to fit within a FAKRO frame. If you do order these knowing they will not fit your window, the item is non-returnable.
PTP and PPP roof windows are made from a white multi-chamber PVC finish with galvanised steel profiles within the chamber to strengthen the fixings. As the internal frame is made from PVC there could be a cause of concern as to whether or not blinds are suitable for these windows – well they absolutely are!
The installation process will require screwing the fixings into the white frame to secure the chosen blind.
